God's living Word comes to the Kendawangan people

Serving among the Kendawangan people.
Tim and Andrea Ullum look forward to an eternal harvest as they serve among the Kendawangan people living in the Asia-Pacific region. “We have seen huge breakthroughs in relationships with neighbors,” Tim writes. “We have also seen God enabling us—even in our weakness.”

Preparing for the Harvest

When the Ullum family first moved to the remote tropical village, they hoped and prayed that God would open doors for them to teach Bible lessons among the Kendawangan. The Ullums, along with the rest of their six-person missionary team, spent years working diligently to learn the language and culture of the people. Many weeks and months of preparation went into making lessons and translating Scripture in order to share God's story from Creation to Christ.

Showing God's Love Among the Kendawangans

The Ullums devoted themselves to the people—sometimes that meant helping a burned child, treating an infant with worms, or aiding an injured grandmother. Through the blessings and trials of their work, they learned to trust in God for His provision for both their daily bread as well as their translation and teaching ministry. The Ullums' faithfulness is bearing fruit—the time has come for the team to share God's message for the Kendawangans. They are now sharing God's story for the people beginning in the book of Genesis.

From Animism to Truth

As the Kendawangan people learn of the truth through the amazing stories in the Bible, pray they abandon their animistic beliefs and that they will have receptive hearts. Ask the Lord to give the Ullums and the rest of the missionary team perseverance as they continue to prepare chronological Bible lessons for the people. Praise the Lord for the openness the people have shown thus far and for the opportunity to share God's story.

Prayer Points

  • “Sometimes a teaching session will go on for hours as we sit on aging pieces of timber underneath corrugated tin held up by bamboo,” wrote missionary Aaron Luse. This Easter, several Patpatar taught about Christ’s death, burial and resurrection to their own people. Pray that they would comprehend what God did on their behalf, and that many would believe on the finished work of Jesus.
  • Those opposing the gospel went door to door to persuade villagers to not attend the second presentation of the chronological Bible lessons. They knew this message conflicted with their traditional beliefs—they just didn’t know [how]. Missionary Brandon Buser asks for prayer that many would come and listen, and that God would draw their hearts.
  • In the Philippines, the Manobo Bible teachers travel by motorcycle to other Manobo villages to teach evangelistic Bible lessons. Pray for hearts ready to listen and that many will come to Christ.
  • Missionaries Aaron and Lori Luse say plans are being made to teach in a nearby Patpatar village, which previously had no interest in hearing God's talk. In fact, at times they were quite opposed to it. Praise God with us for their change of heart!
  • "Lots of the women had been believing in the power of animism, but now through these Bible lessons they are not trusting in the power of animism but the Lord Jesus," wrote missionary Craig Cassel. Craig asks prayer for Yuliben and Torena as they continue teaching chronologically to a group of ladies in the Asia-Pacific region.
