Why are you here?
The Kendawangan people have been waiting to hear the message the missionaries came to give them.
They’ve asked over and over again, “Why are you here?” And the missionaries replied, “We have a message from God.”
Many Kendawangan people live along a river system in Southeast Asia. Their language is called Puang. The missionaries came to live among the people, build relationships and ultimately teach through the Bible from Creation to Christ.
Now the missionary team has begun teaching in the book of Genesis and the Kendawangans are hearing about the Creator God.
To get to the point where they can begin teaching chronologically through the Bible, the six missionaries each spent: four years in specialized training for cross-cultural communication, three years of learning the culture and language of the country where they work, four (or more) years of tribal culture and language learning, many hours of personal sacrifice, hard work, setbacks and sorrows.
Is it worth it? As the people hear God’s truth and compare His goodness to their animistic beliefs, the truth will penetrate many Kendawangan hearts. That makes all the study and the sacrifices well worth it.
Please pray with us that God will soften hearts of the Kendawangan people and that they will be hungry and thirsty to hear the gospel message. Pray too for the missionary team, Tim and Andrea Ullum, Paul and Irene Pries, and Phil and Shelly Svoboda. Pray that they will remain faithful and diligent in preparing chronological lessons to teach.
